A little bit about us

Helping Hands Mission Thrift has been a well established Christian non profit for over 15 years. Sue Ketchel, the founder, grew up in India as the child of two missionary parents and was compelled to donate her proceeds to furthering the Christian education of Indian youth. Her first location was on Grand Rapids' West Side on Bridge street. After several great years there, she moved to Alpine Ave. (also in the heart of the West Side). She continued to be profitable, while creating a healthy, loving environment for her customers, donors and volunteers at that location until her husband, Stan, took a job in Georgia. It was then they decided to move the mission to Southern Georgia. Sue has run a successful mission in Warner Robins since the move and is now ready to move into the next chapter in her life. She will be retiring soon and graciously asked her step-daughter Mindi Ketchel, to take over the mission and bring it back home to Grand Rapids.

Sue will be staying on as President of the board and business consultant for a few years until the mission re-establishes itself in Michigan. As the Store Manager, Mindi is encouraging the mission to "Go Local" we have named a new local mission. Westown Jubilee Housing is a Christian non profit in the Westown neighborhood of the West Side of Grand Rapids dedicating itself to transitioning the homeless to homeowners. Please read more about them by following the link below.
